Joint CommitteeBMP as secretariat of the Joint CommitteeThe Joint Committee on Mineral Resources in Greenland was set up in July 1979, and has since been the central political forum for the Greenlandic-Danish co-operation on minerals and petroleum in Greenland. The following are the principal tasks of the Joint Committee: to follow mineral-resources developments in Greenland and to submit recommendations to the governments of Denmark and Greenland, both on matters of principle and on the granting of prospecting, exploration, and exploitation licences or amendments to such licences. The Joint Committee can also submit statements to the two governments on other matters concerning mineral resources in Greenland. The following is the present composition of the Joint Committee: Kim Andersen, MP (Denmark), Chair Niels Thomsen, MP (Greenland), Vice Chair Niels Sindal, MP (Denmark), Vice Chair Naaja Nathanielsen, MP (Greenland) Aqqaluaq Egede, MP (Greenland) Kim Kielsen (Greenland) Siverth K. Heilmann, MP (Greenland) Flemming Hansen, (Denmark) Aase D. Madsen, (Denmark) Hans Christian Schmidt, MP (Denmark) Anne Grete Holmsgaard, MP (Denmark) The Chair is appointed by the Queen of Denmark following nomination by the governments of Greenland and Denmark for periods of four years. The Bureau of Minerals and Petroleum (BMP) is the secretariat for the Joint Committee. |
